You may have heard about the importance of sleep in many forums, and may or may not have a complete appreciation of its role in recovering from fatigue.
The reality is that many approximately 50% of people suffering from a fatigue based condition experience difficulties with sleep. This can range from finding it difficult to fall asleep, stay asleep and wake refreshed.
This in turn provides more fuel to the fatigue cycle.
Sleep is essential when combating fatigue. This is largely due to its ability to help with brain detoxification, promote tissue repair, improving your immune system’s functionality and heightening one’s brain power.
We progress through various stages of sleep, ranging from light, deep to REM. It is crucial to spend adequate times of sleep in each of these stages.
What is often not discussed however is the need for good quality sleep, as opposed to merely focusing on length. This amplifies the benefits listed above and plays a crucial part in one healing from fatigue.
Poor sleep hygiene, irregular routines, blue light exposure before bed, and stress are common contributors to poor-quality sleep.
Addressing these through lifestyle changes—like establishing a calming bedtime routine, minimizing screen time in the evening, and managing stress—can dramatically improve sleep quality.
When sleep becomes restorative, it lays the foundation for sustainable energy and overall well-being.
